Well...I could tell that something was just not right with my little Abby today. I asked her and asked her and then finally she told me that she was not picked as a dancer in her classroom play. Four boys and four girls were picked and she was not one of them. She was picked to be a reader, but that is little comfort to her. SOOOO we (I) decided that we should put on a play here at home. I told her to go think of an idea and write it down...think of the setting and the characters and make sure whatever the play to include her brother Aidan!
She came up with the idea of a princess. Shocking huh? I was the queen (of course!) Allen was the king, Abby was the princess, Aidan had a dual role of prince and dragon and Andrew was at times the dragon and at times the prince. Basil was a frog (to kiss the princess) and Riley was a fly who the frog chased around and he also got a chance to kiss the princess. For the record, neither dog has yet transformed into a handsome prince. Her play had no lines, instead we had to improvise. Aidan found the word improvise fascinating. Oh, did I forget to mention that in addition to his prince/dragon role that at some point during the play he decided to play that black ranger (power ranger), assigned Abby a ranger as well and ran around like a crazy man trying to get some bad dude? After princess Abby was woken up by Sir Basil the Frog she showed me around the castle. Her bedroom was a guest room where she sometimes slept. The boys room was, well, the boys room. The kitchen was the kitchen...every man's home is his castle...get it! HA
The play ended with the Queen really being the dragon, but the Queen was trapped inside the dragon and as Abby and Aidan slayed me (er..the queen/dragon) the real Queen came back to life...but we left the play thinking...was i really the queen or the dragon... (deep question huh? what would a psychologist say about that one?)
Andrew went to bed satisfied with his debut as an actor, Aidan settled down rather quickly...but my little Abbs...she came out and said she couldn't sleep...I knew why right away. She sat on my lap and cried. We lighted the mood, actually Daddy did, by talking about how she is wonderful just as she is and for who she is play or no play (that reminds me of Aidan's joke..pants or no pants...) and then Allen told her that she was the best bowler ever and how dare she beat him like that last weekend and he wants a re-match. She smiled and laughed and went off to bed...but while doing the dishes i noticed a little body next to me. With tired eyes, and holding one of her many teddy's she told me that she couldn't sleep. She asked where daddy was and could she go snuggle. There is nothing more comforting than the love of a daddy...i remember it well...and think of it often...
ok ok...enough with the tears...
i hope she has sweet dreams and thinks about herself as a princess in her grand castle with her princes sleeping in their room next door and her mommy and her queen and king snuggled up next to her...
goodnight...
